Why Gloomy Days Feel Like a Hug for the Soul?

Finding Joy in Gloomy Days: A Journey into Cosy Living and Mindful Relaxation

Ever wondered why gloomy days make us feel so snug and at peace? When it's grey and rainy outside, it's as if the world is telling us to relax and enjoy the comfort of our homes. It's the perfect time for some self-care, and what's better than curling up with a good book and a lovely candle to keep you company?

There's something undeniably soothing about the rhythmic patter of raindrops on the window, a sound that not only calms the mind but also invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and engage more fully with the present moment.

The concept of slow living, centred around taking a step back to savour life's simple pleasures, really comes to life when the weather is gloomy and there is nowhere to be in a hurry.

Rain and thunder outside bring a unique kind of mental peace. Personally, when it rains, it makes me feel like my home is the safest place on earth. With the door locked, a cosy blanket wrapped around my knees, and a warm cup of tea in hand, everything just feels right.

Top Candles for Rainy Days: Bookish and Autumn Scents

My love for moody weather is definitely reflected in our candles, as we have whole collections of cosy Autumn and bookish candles designed to make you feel cosy and at peace when it's gloomy and rainy outside like "Cosy Reads" (pomegranate & wood), "Reading on a Rainy Day" (fresh linen), or "Forest Rain" (pine needles & fern).

The American Heart Association conducted a study that showed listening to rain is very calming and soothing for our nervous system. Research has also shown that the sound of rain can have a calming effect on our minds, reducing stress and helping us to relax. It's like nature's own version of a white noise machine, providing a soothing backdrop that can help us find a bit of tranquility in our often hectic lives.

Slow Living on Rainy Days: Savouring the Moment

For me, these grey days serve as a canvas, highlighting all the things that I love about cosiness: curling up in my favourite spot, a steaming cup of tea in hand, and the soft glow of a YR studio candle flickering gently. Whether I'm working from home or relaxing (e.g., reading or doing yoga), I tend to keep peeking at the window, admiring the droplets going down the glass. It's one of my favourite sights, you can often spot this in my videos! Rain - both its sound and the way it looks - is the perfect setting for practicing mindfulness and slow living, and finding joy in things that often go unnoticed.
